In which countries can I request a service from Izinta Ltd.?

Our registered office is in Hungary, but thanks to our extensive partner network, we are able to organize shipments to any part of the world, by land, water and air.

Will Izinta Ltd. help me with organizational tasks as well? What are my responsibilities as a customer?

This largely depends on the assignment. Your responsibility is to provide all the information that is necessary to complete the job:
The location of the shipment’s starting point and end destination (due to necessary customs procedures, it is important to know whether the shipment will be made to a location inside or outside the EU)
The desired date of the shipment
The receiving company’s name, establishment, exact address, as well as the contact’s name and contact details
The type and activity of the isotope
The type of the packaging and the UN number of the freight
The dimensions of the freight
Transport category and index
Whether the sender and recipient have license

What kind of materials does Izinta Ltd. transport upon request?

We are capable of transporting any radioactive material prepared as per ADR class 7 regulations without radionuclide limitation, unless its activity requires a packaging that is more than 1200 kilograms in weight and 2.8 meters in length. The maximum height and width of the cargo is limited to 1.3 meters.

What vehicles do we use to transport?

Shipments are made on road by vans that weigh no more than 3.5 tons in total and have a closed body. We also take requests to transport radioactive materials if both the sender and the recipient have an official license to handle the given isotope. In case multimodal transportation is necessary (ie. air or rail shipment is used), we can help arrange for that as well. Road shipment is still necessary in these cases, and the radioactive materials might also need to be stored before the departure or after the arrival of the aircraft or train. Our company can also provide this for you in our licensed isotope warehouses.

What kind of vehicles are suitable for transportation? How can I transport radioactive materials with my own vehicle?

We often find that foreign transportation companies do not fulfill all the conditions of Hungary’s physical protection regulations. We take requests to transport isotopes to domestic addresses or from border to border in case the cargo’s weight and dimensions do not exceed the limitations of the cargo vans of the Izinta Ltd. fleet.

When it is not feasible, a business must obtain a physical protection license from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority to transport radioactive materials in Hungary. In the case of licenses obtained through Izinta Ltd., the authority will only deem the conditions of your license fulfilled if the cargo is secured by an Izinta Ltd. vehicle ahead of the transport vehicle, and another one with armed personnel behind it.

What convoy escort can we provide?

If the physical protection of the freight cannot be ensured in another way, a vehicle convoy must be set up and led and/or escorted. This is usually necessary in the case of high-activity isotope shipments made across the country – by foreign transportation companies. Foreign businesses have to obtain a license for these shipments from the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority and the Hungarian National Police Headquarters which acts as the competent specialized authority. Izinta Ltd. will help with obtaining the license upon request.

The situation is similar in the case of shipments to Hungary, as these need to be secured from the border to the recipient’s establishment.
In the case of licenses obtained through Izinta Ltd., the authorities will only deem the necessary conditions fulfilled if there is an Izinta Ltd. vehicle leading the way ahead of the transport vehicle, and it is followed by an escort vehicle with armed personnel to secure the freight against theft. In simpler cases (eg. when D-level physical protection is enough), it is sufficient if an Izinta Ltd. vehicle drives behind the transport vehicle to ensure unauthorized people cannot access the freight. Convoy escorts are limited to Hungarian territory, as physical protection is only required in Hungarian regulations.

What licenses do I have to obtain to provide transport services in Hungary?

In order to request transit license from the competent Hungarian authority (Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority), you must possess the following documents:

Companies that do not have a permanent establishment in Hungary must have a transportation license applicable for the isotope and its activity issued by the country in which the company operates
All members of the staff must have a certificate of clean criminal record issued by the police authority of their place of residence.
The driver must have at least a basic level radiation protection and international ADR certificate
The license number, technical specifications and a photo of the transport vehicle
The name of the isotope to be transported
The activity of the isotope to be transported
The UN number of the shipment
The type and a photo of the transport container
All international certificates stipulated by ADR (Special Form or certificate of Type B or C container)

The requirements listed above must be included in a physical protection plan written in Hungarian, which must be submitted to the competent authority. The authority has 60 days to assess the request, but it may be extended with another 30 days if necessary.

Depending on the activity of the isotope to be transported, B-, C- or D-level physical protection might be required.

Shipments that require B-level physical protection are approved on a single occasion basis by the authority.

C- and D- level licenses last 5 years.

Izinta Ltd. has already helped a number of cargo companies – which play a significant role in international transportation – to prepare and obtain these licenses.
